In my recipe, I threw in some real bacon pieces and topped them with my Spicy Salad Microgreen mix.  You can top your soup with anything you like including chives, cheese, and even sour cream.  Be creative and use what you have on hand.

Potato Soup Recipe Video

This was my first time using the Instant Pot and I made a little ‘boo-boo’.  In the video, I edit out the mistake and noted what to do if you get the ‘BURN FOOD’ warming on the Instant Pot.  It is going to happen… trust me.  When you get that warning it doesn’t mean you’ve destroyed your meal it just means you need to make some adjustments to the pot so don’t panic.

  • 1/2 cup of sweet onion diced
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 2 teaspoons of flour (to thicken)
  • 1/3 cup of diced celery up to bite-size pieces
  • 2 cups of Milk
  • 1 1/2 cups of Water

  1. Using the 3 quart Instant Pot saute the onion in 1 tablespoon of olive oil

  3. Cook the vegetables on the Pressure Cooker setting. See chart on your instant pot. Mine cooked for 4 minutes.
  4. Manually release the pressure
  5. Set Instant Pot on ‘Sauté’ mood before stirring in salt, pepper , flour and Milk. Bring to boil and stir continuously so it doesn’t stick or burn to bottom of the pot.
  6. After about 5-8 minutes or until the mixture is creaming turn Instant Pot to ‘warm’ setting.
  7. Serve with favorite toppings or microgreens and bacon as suggested in this post.

  2. I tried the manual release method and had potato soup spitting out!! The soup that was left was very yummy 😋.

    1. I have that happen with my pasta water when doing an early release with the Instant pot. I think it is the amount of liquid that makes its way to the top in a smaller appliance. My instant pot is a 3 Qt. The Electric pressure cooker I use is a 8 Qt and I have not had any liquid ‘spit’ out the top. I am really glad you liked the soup!!! Thank you so much for commenting. I’ll be sure more recipes this month so stay tuned!
