Nothing is more spectacular then a perfect white rose in the garden.  In today’s post, I share my passion for growing the iceberg climbing rose in my home garden.

Iceberg Rose on Climber

Iceberg Climbing Rose

In early June I decided to pull the dead root out of the Patriotic Red, White and Blue Landscape after facing the sad truth that yellow climbing rose was not coming back after the horrible winter. In its place, I planted an Iceberg Rose I had purchased as a bare root.  The first bloom finally arrives around July just in time for the 4th and the blooms are coming on strong even after a hard frost a week ago. Just look at the blooms in September I shared on Instagram.   I’m very sure the winter weather coming tomorrow will knock these new buds out for the year.David Austin White Climbing Rose

The forecast in the low 20*s and highs only in the 30*s the Iceberg Climbing rose had made it up to the 4 rungs on the trellis.  I was sure to mulch the newly planted rose planted in Autumn.  The corner where it was planted is well protected from harsh zone 5b winters.   I love this rose so much I even recommend it to my neighbor.

Update Featuring The Climber

UPDATE: The rose in this post lifted from the ground during an extremely cold spring.  We lost the climber because I didn’t see the roots exposed from the soil until it was too late.  I recommend that any climber is able to move at least 8 inches on its own without the trellis it is attached to.  IF the rose would have been pruned in the late autumn and not attached to the trellis it wouldn’t have been lifted from the soil.
