Zephrine Drouhin Climbing Rose

Even though it has been a very dry spring the roses in my home garden are putting on a show. One of my favorite climbing roses is this Zephrine Drougin Rose that appears to be taking on a life of its own.   In this post I share a video and images of how this beautiful bloomer is doing year 4.

Zephrine Drouhin Climbing Rose Year 4

Hard to believe this rose is blooming so early and profusely.  In this video take a look at the 2 different types of leaves this rose variety is putting off in year 4.  Both the branches are growing from the main root stock about 6 inches up from the soil line.  See the video below:

If you have issues viewing the video you can find it on my youtube page at Bren Haas.

About the Zephrine Drougin Rose Climber

On my previous YouTube video share many disagree that this is actually the rose variety I list.  I do believe this rose I am growing is a variation of the original but not the same.  Over time I believe the plant I have has lost it’s scent and does have thorns even though they are not sharp like most others.

Thank you for checking out my website today.

Dome Gardening Early April Update Watching the video you will get to experience a little of the magic of growing year-round.  It is amazing each time I go into this growing space to see all the new growth.  This was a great year for the peppers that were wintered over and a few new accent plants.   Check out the images and more later in this post. https://youtu.be/sKde3DwueTU This video is part of my Bren Haas Channel.  Dome Gardening Early April Highlights Here is a collection of images from this day in the geodesic bio dome.  Scroll through each to see details on each image by clicking. Salad Bouquet Lavender in Early Spring Lettuce bouquets are my favorite year-round in the dome.  The flavor of this Oakleaf Lettuce and Spicy Salad Mix Microgreens is super fresh and holding its flavor. As the temperature rises in the dome lettuce usually gets bitter but not this bouquet as of this April Dome Update. Lavender WIN in the dome this April.  I am excited to repot the herb in its own container to move out to one of my patios this summer.  It was super nice to be able to brush up against the leaves and enjoy the aroma of fresh green lavender.  This plant bloomed a few weeks ago. Dome Update For Last Week of March

In this post I share my latest vlog featuring the late March dome greenhouse update.  Check out highlights from the roses, new dahlia and vegetable starter plants after night in the 40’s. Dome Update For Last Week of March Dome Life | Growing Year-Round in the 20 Foot Ohio Dome This is just a 10 minute clip from content I could present from sunrise to sunset.  I am excited to share with you how the rose varieties I am growing perform in this space.  The dahlias available locally this time of year are tempting m.  In the video you will see a variety I found at Walmart. Scroll down below the video to see highlights of my favorite outtakes today. This video is part of my Bren Haas Channel.  I hope you check out additional videos on my website in vlogs. Dome Update Highlight Plants This year I am really trying hard to get more content on my site featuring the plants I grow.  The vlogs I put together will highlight some of my favorites that I feel are important to talk about.   If you have questions or want to hear more about an item mentioned please get a hold of me on my site.   Here are a few of the plants and topics mentioned in the video I want to highlight. Tomato and Pepper Starter Plants Tomato Starter Plants pepper plants Compared to years past I wasn’t completely shocked that the 2-3 inch tall starter plants did well during a spring night.  The temp stick (device we use to record temperatures in the dome) shows the dome hit 48*F over night.  This means that the location of the starter plants most likely was around 45*F on the far north /east side of the 20 foot dome.  In this post I share a photo of what they look like after a few very cool days in the dome with every little sunlight. Check out my posts featuring the tomatoes and Peppers I am growing this year! Dahlia I’ve got a new dahlia for this year that I found at Walmart. I wasn’t going to purchase any this year but I couldn’t resist.  The image looks awesome and there were only 2 packages left so I grabbed one.  It is the Zingaro Dahlia and I’ll be sure to share updates as it blooms and grows.  For now it is planted in a baggy in my dome. Roses in the Dome mini rose Roses in the Dome I’ve been trialing a few new roses in the dome that are in this March update.  I’ll list the ones I have growing in containers below.  They all are doing great year-round especially in containers.  The containers make it easy to move the plant out of the super hot and humid conditions during the summer months. Practical Winter Cut Flower Arrangements

Practical Winter Cut Flower Arrangement Tips

Happy New Year – Picked this beautiful boutique of cut flowers up locally to enjoy indoors in the New Year. In this post I share tips on how to keep cut flowers looking their best for the new year. https://youtu.be/J9PE6QFEVNM Find this video and others on my Bren Haas YouTube Channel. Cut Flower Tips Below are a few basic tips for keeping a beautiful winter cut flower bouquet.  I share basic care  and even how to cut the stems.  Please be sure to add questions at the bottom of this blog post or reach out to me on my website. Cut Stems When bringing that beautiful boutique of flowers home cut ( at an angle)  1″ off the bottom of the steam.  A fresh cut allows the flower to take in fresh water from the boutique vase. Fresh Water in Clean Vase Never use softened water in a vase solution as it contains sodium, which is bad for cut flowers.  Be sure to freshen up or add new water daily.  Don’t let old leaves fall into the water.  Remove those spent foliage as they drop. Feed The Cut Flower Flowers are living and will flourish if you feed them. You can use the packet that is usually attached to most cut flower boutiques when you purchase them at the store.  You can also mix a few drops of lemon, sugar and a dab of bleach in the vase. Where to Enjoy Cut Flowers Be sure to keep the flowers in a cool location. Never place the vase of cut flowers in direct sunlight or near a heater vent.  This will dry out the cut flowers and cause the cuttings to dry up quickly.  I store my cut flowers and bouquets in a cool room or even the cool basement until I am ready to do an arrangement. Ideal Cut Flower Over the years I have found we have more to offer locally thanks to local growers expanding their varieties.  This year due to the pandemic the pickings were very thin locally.  This really got me thinking about what I could grow in my dome greenhouse to enjoy during the winter months.  Below are a few of the flowers I recommend because they  hold up the best indoors during the cold winter months. Carnations Mini Roses Babies Breath (Gypsophila) Garden Mums (Chrysanthemums) Alstroemeria Stay tuned for updates on what I find will grow best year-round in a greenhouse or dome set up.  I hope to experiment with that in the weeks to come. Let’s Connect I’m excited about the new year a head of us and I want to connect with you.  You are invited to comment on this post and please share it with friends so we can get folks growing.  I look forward to connecting with you soon. Happy New Year,
