Thanksgiving Sangria Recipe Prep Tips

I originally stirred this up for Thanksgiving dinner during Covid-19 year (2020).  Seems odd doesn’t it… but who doesn’t need a little festive kick to turkey dinner during a pandemic.  That was the year I had also found my favorite ginger beer had a cinnamon variety.  If you are lucky enough to find that you can omit the maple syrup and cinnamon spices in recipes below.

For this recipe you will need a few fresh ingredients along with your favorite dry white wine.  I use Pinot Grigio I get from Aldi.

My all time favorite ginger beer is by Bundalberg Ginger Beer.

How To Serve the Thanksgiving Sangria

It is pretty easy to serve the Thanksgiving Sangria.  You will want to prepare it just moments before guests arrive so it doesn’t get watered down from the ice.   I like using my punch bowl on a stand because it has a lid and is easy to use the spout.  The recipe is put together up to 6 hours before serving and stored in the refrigerator in my giant canning jar.

Below you will find a printable recipe card for my Thanksgiving Sangria.  Don’t be afraid to play around with different seasonal fruits to add as garnish to this drink.  If you are not into brandy you can totally omit it from this recipe.   I also like to have a crockpot filled with cider that isn’t spiked!

Thanksgiving Sangria with Apples on Top

Difficult: Easy

Prep Time: 1-2 hours

Ingredients

  • 1 (750 ml) bottle dry white wine, such as Pinot Grigio ( I use Aldi’s Winking Owl Brand)
  • 1 cup apple cider (try to find local)
  • 1/2 cup brandy
  • 1/3 cup of fresh squeeze lemon juice ( about 1 large lemon)
  • 2-4 tablespoons pure maple syrup, using more or less to your taste
  • 2 honey crisp apples, sliced
  • 2 blood oranges, sliced
  • 1 cup pomegranate arils
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1-2 (12 ounce) ginger beers

Directions

  1. In a large pitcher, combine all the ingredients except the ginger beer. Stir and then place in the fridge until chilled.
  2. Before serving, add the ginger beer. Fill each glass with ice and pour the sangria over the ice. If desired top with more cinnamon ginger beer.
  3. Ingredients can be mixed and stored in for refrigerator for up to 24 hours – no longer!

Grow Your Own Fruit

If you are lucky (like I’ve been a few years in a row) you will have your very own lemon off your tree to use.   I also have grown pomegranate but never had a harvest during Thanksgiving.    I’ll share links here if you are interested in learning how to grow those fruits on your own.
