Asparagus Seed Starting Update

In the video below, I offer a brief glimpse into the growth of the seedlings now that they’ve been moved to the greenhouse. My greenhouse is unheated, which provides the new plants with more than what house conditions an offer. It’s thrilling to witness such progress from just planting a few seeds in March. In roughly four weeks, I’ve cultivated these HUGE starter plants. I hope you’ll take a moment to watch my video below.

Please note that the seedlings featured in this vlog and post need to be divided.  I hope to do this once I have the raised bed ready to go.  The video on this blog is from my Bren Haas YouTube Channel.  If you have issues viewing the content, please reach out to me on my blog today.

About The Asparagus Seeds

There are 2 varieties featured on my post today that I start from seed back in early March.  In just about 3 -4 weeks the seedlings were up and ready to be divided or put into a permanent spot.  One thing I learned over the years is you want to make sure wherever you put the asparagus is where they will stay for at last 5 years.   Below are the two varieties I am growing from seed that I purchased from Rare Seeds . com. I have had great success growing their heirloom varieties in my home garden and hydroponics.

  • Mary Washington
  • Connovers Colossaln

This has been a fun growing year with asparagus plants.  A few weeks ago I also started some asparagus from bareroots that I bought locally.  The variety I am growing from bareroot is the ‘New Jersey’.   You can find information about that on my website under the Asparagus Tag.

Before I return to my spring chores, I’d like to share several images with you. Make sure to click on each one for a detailed view and read the descriptions for more information.

Make sure to explore the other posts on my website that feature asparagus. Over the years, numerous inspirations have motivated me to attempt growing it myself.
