Jade Plants in the Dome Garden

In this post, I will share how I care for jade plants in my dome greenhouse and at home throughout the year. You’ll find a detailed video showcasing my collection along with helpful growing tips.

How to Care for Jade Plants

Jade plants are quite easy to grow and are very forgiving, even in cooler hardiness zones. To keep your jade plant thriving, consider the following tips for year-round care:

  • Jade plants thrive with plenty of light but should be protected from direct sunlight. The best placement is in a south-facing window or on a patio where they can absorb gentle late morning sun.
  • Allow the soil for jade plants to dry out somewhat between waterings. Water them occasionally, and don’t forget to fertilize during the growing season.
  • Be cautious not to overwater the plant.
  • Jade plants flourish in warm temperatures. You can move your plant outdoors, but make sure to acclimate it gradually to its new surroundings.
  • Don’t hesitate to prune the plant as necessary. If the leaves appear unhealthy or if the plant requires shaping, carefully remove and trim those parts. In sunny, dry conditions, new growth will often emerge quickly.
  • Utilize a container that has proper drainage to avoid waterlogged soil.

Jade Plant Video

I created a video showcasing the growth of my jade plants in the dome greenhouse. In it, you’ll see how I prune the plants and learn about the ideal conditions for this variety. The footage was captured during the humid and hot summer days of late July, which are perfect for most of my houseplants and tropical species. Be sure to check out the video, featured on my Bren Haas YouTube Channel!

My journey with jade plants began when I bought my first one from a local garden center, nestled in a cozy houseplant section. After nurturing it indoors for about six years, it grew to an impressive height of 2 feet and a width of 3 feet. Unfortunately, one autumn, I forgot to bring it inside before a chilly night, resulting in the complete frost damage of its leaves. I felt heartbroken. However, the following season, I discovered another jade plant and embarked on the growing adventure once more. Since then, I’ve made sure never to leave my jade plants outside during the late summer and early autumn. Today, my home and greenhouse are filled with numerous thriving plants that flourish throughout the year.
