Grocery Gardening Book Review

I still remember getting the Grocery Gardening Book in the mail in February 2010.  I was very new to doing book reviews and what an honor to get a publication from a gal I followed (and adored on social media).  When I look back on those days I didn’t realize that just about everything in that book was what I lived in my garden and home. To this day it is one of my favorite cookbooks that I have close to the kitchen for reference and inspiration.

 When I went to the grocery store to pick up ingredients for a featured recipe in this book I was sure to grab some flowers for the blog post images.  back in 2010 in February fresh green flowers in Ohio were only found at the store.  Check out the Berry Crumble Recipe inspired by this publication on my website / blog.

Featuring stunning photography from a gardener’s home, its main goal is to equip readers with the essential knowledge they need to start growing their own food. I really like how the book is put together showcasing a few other garden foodie writers such as, Amanda Thomsen, Robin Ripley, and Teresa O’Connor. These are a few of the gardeners I have got to know from social media along with garden writer events.
Kicking Back with A Great Book

As you can see from the photo above, I am kicking back by the fireplace with my favorite green socks. Dreaming as I read this awesome book I was gifted. 

I believe I truly read it from cover to cover, captivated by the wonderful gardening tips included with each edible plant mentioned. It’s hard to believe that this is a book centered around Grocery Gardening!

  2. Chinese chive flowers with shrimp is an easy dish to make and reheats well in microwave.I saw in Thailand using lot of chinese chive flowers in their apetite…nice post Brenda..

Seriously, you’re making me wish I could go to Borders tomorrow–but alas, I’m stuck at home in a blizzard, too:) All these snow days I could have been experimenting with some great recipes! You’ve sold me! Love your jammies, and your photos…everything looks like a fancy magazine. Jan

  6. Yes, I agree that your post is beautiful. (I esp. love your jammies!) 😉 Sounds like a great book – and I didn’t know you could eat chive flowers, either. Maybe that would be a good thing, as they surely self seed and spread wildly! lol
