Blue Spice Basil From Hydroponic to Soil
Blue Spice Basil From Hydroponic to Soil

The fragrance of this herb offers a refreshing touch of vanilla, making it one of my favorite herbs to cultivate year-round. Growing it from seed in a hydroponic setup is incredibly simple with this variety. In today’s post, you’ll find a video showcasing the impressive growth of my plant over the past three months. We will be transferring this large herb plant into the dome, where it will thrive in soil.

About Blue Spice Basil

I first received this seed as a free gift a few years ago with my order from Baker Creek Herb Farm (rare seeds). Ocimum americanum x basilicum boasts dense spikes adorned with light purple flowers, beautifully encased in striking deep purple bracts. This vigorous plant looks amazing in containers or raised bed borders. Its rich aroma, featuring spicy vanilla notes, adds a delightful touch to both fruit salads and savory dishes, making it one of the most fragrant varieties of basil.

I’ve cultivated this seed every year since I first recieved it. Growing it both indoors and in my garden succuessfully . There’s so much I adore about this basil that it’s hard to know where to start. From its captivating scent and stunning appearance to its ease of cultivation, it truly stands out. In the video, I emphasize the following aspects:

  • Flowering that attracts pollinators
  • Simplicity of growing in an indoor hydroponic garden system
  • Ease of transplanting in a dome during the cooler winter months
  • The delightful fresh vanilla fragrance

Join me in the video as we make our way to the dome on a chilly February day, eagerly awaiting 1–3 more inches of snow. You’ll be amazed at how vibrant the Blue Spice Basil looks as we transplant it into soil, especially considering it’s just 18°F outside. Inside the dome, it’s a cozy 65°F as we transition the hydroponic plant to its new home in soil. Watch the full story through the link below

In conclusion, I hope you consider growing these herbs in your home or garden. As I mentioned in today’s video, they thrive wonderfully during the winter months when grown indoors using hydroponics or in a greenhouse that maintains temperatures above 45°F.

Thank you for visiting my blog post today. I’m excited to share more about my gardening adventures in future posts.

Happy Gardening!
