bright lights swiss chard

In this post, I share my all-season Rainbow Swiss Chard plants growing in my home garden.  Check out the quick video and a few creative images from Autumn – Winter.

All Season Rainbow Swiss Chard

bright light swiss chard

Why do I call the rainbow swiss chard an all-season plant? In my hardiness zone 5b /6 Ohio the plant will not survive the entire winter outdoors.  I dig up the HUGE root of the plants and replant in my dome garden.  In the dome, the plant will not go below 40*F and can continue growing.

Here are a few reasons I LOVE Rainbow Swiss Chard:

  • The swiss chard plant survives hard frost in my landscape
  • Colorful leaves respond to even cold days with vibrant color
  • Harvest new growth for a nutritious addition to your meal
  • Fun to take photos of to share on social media

Rainbow Swiss Chard Moved To Dome Video

In the video featured on this page, I show how easy it is to dig up the roots of the swiss chard to move to my dome where I can continue to enjoy during the winter.  Come spring I need to try and grow this container out in the landscape to see how long I can keep this plant going.  Stay tuned by subscribing to my Newsletter featured on my site.

Growing Geraniums From Seed

Almost 3 inch Container with Plenty of Drainage for Seedlings Growing geraniums from seed can be one of the most fulfilling activities to undertake in the spring. When you start the seeds at the proper time and meet some simple requirements, you can transform your home garden and patio with stunning blooms. In this post, I’ll share my essential tips for successfully growing geraniums from seed. Growing Geraniums From Seed Video In the video below I show how my seedlings are doing after starting the seed back in February.  You will see the way the geraniums were sown indoors back in February using basic supplies you can find locally or on amazon.  Be sure to watch the video to the end so you can see how the seedlings are going to grow until the last frost date in my hardiness zone.  Video Below: https://youtu.be/DKdfugVlbTY The video is from my Bren Haas YouTube Channel.  If you are a subscriber I appreciate your support but be sure to bookmark my website so you can follow my adventures to come in the garden. Growing Geraniums from Seed Tip Newly planted white / rose geranium seedling. To grow geraniums from seed, sow seeds in early to mid-February indoors, using a seed-starting mix, and maintain a warm, moist environment before gradually acclimate seedlings to outdoor conditions. Below are a few important points or tips for achieving germination and happy new seedlings. Use plastic wrap or a clear plastic dome to maintain humidity during germination.  The dome lid containers worked amazing for me early on.   Ensure the seed-starting mix is thoroughly moistened before planting and during the germination process.  However, be sure the soil isn’t soggy or bogged down. Geranium seeds need warmth (70-75°F) to germinate so I use a seed heat mat indoors to begin the germination process. Germination of geranium seeds can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.  Mine took about 14 days. Ensure seedlings receive ample light, either from a sunny window or grow lights. Once the seedlings get their true leaves they can be transplanted to bigger container. Geranium seedlings can be slow-growing, so be patient.
