What a delightful spring we’ve been fortunate to enjoy this year! The weather has been just right, proving to be very generous to my flowering shrubs, trees, and perennials. In this post, I’ll share the exciting moment when my Cytisus Moonlight Broom Shrub first blooms. Be sure to check out the video, images, and a few personal tips on how mine is thriving in hardiness zone 5b.

Cytisius Moonlight Broom Shrub: A Spring Delight in My Garden

This spring, my garden is graced by the stunning blooms of the Cytisius Moonlight Broom shrub, a charming addition next to my pond deck. Known for its striking yellow flowers, this shrub thrives in its well-drained, dry location, where it also enjoys some protection from the harsh winter cold. To further safeguard it during the winter months, I covered the shrub with leaf compost, which has proven effective.

The first signs of blooming appeared in late April, a delightful sight in hardiness zone 5b. The shrub’s delicate, pea-like blossoms stand out against its slender, green stems. I recently discovered that after flowering, this shrub benefits greatly from heavy pruning, encouraging healthier growth and more prolific blooms in the following year. I plan to undertake this task later in the season.

Witnessing its vibrant display this year is particularly rewarding, as it is my first time enjoying the blooms since planting it two years ago. The Cytisius Moonlight Broom adds a splash of color and elegance to my garden, making it a true springtime highlight. \

Where To Find A Moonlight Broom

My Cytisus Moonlight Broom Shrub was purchased at Lowes in 2024.  Since that year I have not seen this variety in their garden center. Since this is an oldie but goodie shrub you could reach out to your local garden center to see if they can get one in stock for you.
