On this frigid 12°F day, I find myself at a loss for a fitting title for this vlog. I’ll go with “lost and found cat in dome,” as I actually misplaced two cats during my time in the dome. Join me to discover how the garden, covered by a dome in hardiness zone 5b, fared after a night of low single-digit temperatures.

Dome Garden Vlog on a Chilly Winter Day

In the 15-minute video, you’ll experience what it’s like to stroll out to the dome garden on a sunny 12°F day in Ohio. It’s truly one of the coolest experiences (pun intended) as long as the sun is shining. Be sure to check out the video feature below and scroll to the end of this blog post for highlight images from the content.

You can find the video on my Bren Haas YouTube Channel. If you’re familiar with the platform, please subscribe to my channel. I also share all my videos on my personal website.

Highlights From the Cold Winter Dome Garden Walk

12*F out to the dome
Adventure Walk to the Dome in 12*F Winter Day

Previously, I’ve expressed my love for having my dome nestled in nature, and this video offers a glimpse into that experience. Walking beneath the trees that provide a windbreak and a home for numerous birds is simply magical. I hope everyone gets to feel that joy at least once in their life. Below are some photos from my vlog.

I always take a moment to hold my breath before opening the dome to this controlled environment because anything can happen. You might open the door to an unexpected surprise, whether it’s my snake having grown an additional 12 inches over winter or the gardens being iced over. Thankfully, the ice situation is unlikely as long as my ‘temp stick’ app is functioning properly. You can find a link to that product, which I highly recommend, below.

Lost Kitty in the Dome Garden Containers
Sissy Kitty in between Containers in the Dome

Today, while recording the experience, I managed to lose both Buddy and Sissy Kitty Cat. Buddy surprised me with a brush against some tall ferns on the south side of the dome, while Sissy decided to embark on an adventure between the containers near the pond within the dome. What a delightful escapade for all of us today!

Kumquats are a Fun Treat in Winter Dome

One of the recurring highlights is discovering a delightful collection of kumquats, perfect for snacking in the dome. Enjoying these grape-sized citrus treats feels like a taste of summer.

Tea Tree Soaks Up Winter Sun
The Tea Tree in the Winter Sunshine

The sunlight illuminating the tea tree this afternoon was truly inspiring. I adore the beautiful color variations of the wood and leaves on this plant.

As we brace for a cold snap next week, with some weekend lows dipping below zero, stay tuned for more updates on my Winter Gardening Adventure for 2026!
