How to Plant an Amaryllis Bulb in Soil Video

In this video, I demonstrate how I plant my Amaryllis in containers with soil.  I hope you will comment on this post and reach out to me on my YouTube Page for more information.  This is the way I enjoy Amaryllis blooms for a few months during the winter season.  This video features the Nymph Amaryllis variety.

Tips on Planting

Below are a few of the tips I want to highlight from the video on this post.  If you are not sure about what I have shared please connect with me on this post.

  1. Pick a clean container that has a drainage hole at the bottom.  The container doesn’t need to be super deep.  I like using a short 3-5″ tall container for my Amaryllis bulbs.
  2. A short layer of drainage rocks can be added to the container but as long as you have a soil that drains well this is not needed.
  3. Prune away some of the roots before planting the bulb.
  4. When adding the bulb to the soil it doesn’t have to be submerged completely.  Be sure to leave about 2-3″ of the bulb top ( shoulder area) showing as directed in the video.
  5. Once the bulb is in place you can add some moss around the top of the soil for decoration and to prevent the soil from drying to quickly.
  6. Water well – I use indoor plant food on my newly planted bulbs.
