Datura Trumpet Flowering At Night Video

Join me in a brief stroll out to my 20-foot geodesic biodome to witness the year’s first bloom on this uncommon plant.

Experiencing the bloom at night was incredible! Regrettably, I was so captivated by its beauty that I missed out on the scent, which I’ve heard is extraordinary.  GO FIGURE!

Despite its toxicity, the allure of the datura trumpet flower is undeniable. The flower, which is the plant’s most notable feature, boasts a bell shape and spans approximately 6 inches across.  There are different varieties of this plant with pink, purple and mix bloom color.

The datura, a herbaceous species, can reach a height of around 5 feet.  In the past I had a variety from a seed I found at a local garden that grow this tall in my dome greenhouse.  The plant thrives in USDA hardiness zones 6 through 9. AS I noted earlier, those residing beyond these zones, cultivating it in a greenhouse or conservatory is possible.
