Peach Cobbler Perfect Harvest

Sunflower and Peach Harvest
Sunflower and Peach Harvest Today

Some people find it hard to believe that we grow tasty peaches in Ohio.  The peach trees we grow in our home orchard provide a bountiful harvest.  Our trees are hardy to zone 5b and do require a little work. You will have to prune the trees to be sure the branches can handle the heavy harvest.  One of the older trees had issues with a peach bore that likes to attack early in the soil.  My Yellow Peach tree doesn’t have these issues even though it is super easy to take care.   Check out Amazon or perfect plants and peach trees that can be sent to your front door in a few days!

We get plenty of peaches from one tree but we enjoy growing a few to share with friends and family.  You can also preserve the harvest from these trees easily.  I enjoy freezing diced peaches after blanching.

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 45 minutes

Difficulty Level: Medium
Servings: 8-12

Ingredients

  • 6 peaches , peeled, cored and sliced (about 5 cups)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (150 g)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the batter:

  • 6 Tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup milk (180 ml)
    ground cinnamon

Directions:

  1. .Add the sliced peaches, sugar and salt to a saucepan and stir to
    combine.
  2. . Cook on medium heat for just a few minutes, until the sugar is
dissolved and helps to bring out juices from the peaches. Remove
    from heat and set aside.
  3. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Slice butter into pieces and add to a
9×13 inch baking dish. Place the pan in the oven while it preheats,
to allow the butter to melt. Once melted, remove the pan from the
    oven.
  4. In a large bowl mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and
salt. Stir in the milk, just until combined. Pour the mixture into the
pan, over the melted butter and smooth it into an even layer.
  5. Spoon the peaches and juice (or canned peaches, if using) over the
batter. Sprinkle cinnamon generously over the top.
  6. .Bake at 350 degrees for about 38-40 minutes. Serve warm, with a
scoop of ice cream or fresh whipping cream.
