Growing up we weekly road trips to various locations around the midwest to keep us busy. My dad was big on driving and finding fun educational locations. As an adult, I love taking Sunday Greenhouse Roadtrips to check out independent garden centers. In today’s post, we take a Sunday greenhouse road trip to Barnes Nursery in Ohio.

Some of the best road trips we’ve taken in the past 10 years have been along Rt. 105 heading toward the lake. The route is a scenic ride that follows the river. The first stop on my Mothers Day Greenhouse Road Trip was Barnes in Huron, Ohio. It was a great day for a drive and an even better day to see how local growers were doing on one of their busiest retail days of the season. This large greenhouse on the Lake was busy but we were still able to get a front-row parking spot.
My First Visit to Barnes Nursery

I was impressed with their large selection of garden accessories and the prices were somewhat reasonable. This large garden center was well organized and super stocked. Not sure what many of the shrubs were during my first visit. were similar to the Rose of Sharon but they were a rust color. Of course, the first plant I was drowning to didn’t have a tag so I can’t tell you what this variety is.
They had a wonderful selection of tropicals much to our delight they were inside because the wind off of the lake was very chilly. Barnes has a wonderful selection of Burley ceramic birdbaths even in the lavender collection that has been discontinued.
Due to the fact that they are close to the Lake, you will find unique nautical themed garden art.
I think one of my favorite features at this greenhouse was the trellis structures. Hubby advised me to take lots of photos so we could add one to our bedroom deck/garden area. I also find an adorable rooster sculpture that I would love to add to one of my country gardens but it just wasn’t the right size.
Let’s Connect
In conclusion of reading this, I’d love to hear about your Sunday road trips and if you have any garden centers in your area you enjoy visiting. Maybe you just enjoy getting out to your local park or just driving – share with me!
Happy Road Trip,
