Highlights from the Season

I had hoped to share some images from a nearby orchard today, but I’m currently preoccupied with preparing my dome garden for the snow expected this weekend. Please check back soon, as I’ll make sure to add a post in the local adventure category on my website. In the meantime, here are some photos of our ‘Winesap Apple’ tree, which we cultivate in our little Ohio orchard. It’s one of my favorite varieties to grow and incorporate into dishes like the Spiced Apple Cider feature today.

Handful Harvest in August

The Winesap apple is among the first varieties we harvest during the summer months, and I saved a few to incorporate into this dish. Another fantastic variety to consider for autumn recipes is the Evercrisp apple. While I don’t grow this type myself, a nearby orchard and farmer’s market do, and it has quickly become our favorite thanks to its delightful sweetness and impressive shelf life.

I apologize for not capturing a great photo of the cider in the mug or the serving glass I used. I was likely too engrossed in savoring that delicious Thanksgiving turkey and the entire meal!
