  1. I think Pillar Rose of Sharon is an excellent choice for privacy during the early summer to late autumn months. The leaves do drop for winter so keep that in mind. A pillar rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus) differ significantly from regular varieties primarily in their growth habit, shape, and spatial footprint. While regular rose of Sharon shrubs grow wide, vase-shaped, and spreading, pillar types (such as Purple Pillar® or White Pillar®) grow in a tight, upright, and narrow column. I can share a video of how mine are growing this summer ASAP!

  2. I need a tall, narrow plant next to my deck to slightly screen out the neighbor. Tired of arborvitae. Considering 2 white pillar rose of Sharon. I can plant then 3’ out, but my concern is at maturity will they still hang over the deck? which I do not want! Will they stay tall and narrow if left unpruned?
Will pruning make they them get wider and wider?
    Thanks!
