New Tomato Plants For 2022

This year I am mixing it up in the home garden.  In this post I share the new tomato plants for 2022 I have growing from seed. New Tomato Plants I hope to do better at sharing photos of the tomatoes as they grow compared to last year.  Last year I was horrible at my tag making for each new seedling.  Things got so mixed up and I grew way too many.  When it came time to give the plants away I ended up giving too many away and not saving 1 of each for my own documentation.  This year I am doing much better so far.  Below is the list of new tomatoes I have started from seed. Gold Medal (seed from 2012) Think Pink Pink Brandywine F1 Aunt Ruby Green Red Torch Terranzo  (2014) Spoon Tomato Hugh’s Tomato Purple Reign The seeds were started on February 18, 2022.  On March 15 I started to move the starters to the dome greenhouse.  Our last frost date in hardiness zone 5b is May 15.  I usually take the tomato plants to the raised beds and large garden by June 1st. STAY TUNED: I will add more images of the tomatoes as they grow this year. Tomato Plant From Seed 2022 Update I put together a video showing how the starter plants are growing under lights indoors.  The video below shows how I divide the plants and transplant to a bigger bag for the rest of the season before planting outside. This video is part of my Bren Haas Channel.  Be sure to connect with me on my site with any questions you may have. Below are a few blog post related to the tomato plants growing for 2022. The Tomato Seeds on a Dried Napkin Planting

In this post I share the mystery tomato seeds on a dried napkin planting.  These in an envelope labelled ‘organic heirloom tomato’.  Find the video on how I plant the napkin and what happen after just a short few days. The Tomato Seeds on a Dried Napkin Planting A few years ago I hosted a seed swap locally.  One of the seeds submitted to the swap was this napkin filled with dried seeds.  It was stored in an enveloped labelled ‘577 Organic Heirloom Tomato’.  Honestly, I was not expecting much to happen if anything to sprout at all.  I decided to go ahead and plant the napkin in a starter pot like I do all my other tomato plants.  In the video below I show how I planted the napkin. https://youtu.be/RGeXMUf5THo Wait until you see what happen in just a few days…. New Tomato Plants From Napkin Planting https://youtu.be/w7uDWqLe2Ho Can you imagine my surprise to find all these healthy looking starter plants?   Dried Seeds on Napkin | Mystery Tomato Envelope that seeds were in at seed swap. I can’t wait to see what the harvest (if any) will be like.   To ensure they get the best start I transplant the seedlings to their own container.  Now they will stay in the greenhouse dome with the other tomato starters this year until it is time to get them outside in the garden.  If the plant seems to respond well to the conditions in the dome through the season I may try a few in this growing space. Each one of these seedlings are removed and planted in their own baggy to grow up strong.  After May 15th the plants are free to go to new homes! UPDATE 8/2022 In the photo below you can see the stripe like plum shape tomato that is the ‘mystery’ variety I grew from the napkin seed.  This was a tasty tomato in salads or just for snacking.   Seed Starting Blog Post If you enjoyed reading about my napkin tomato growing experiment you may want to see these other post listed below.   Let’s Connect What do you think of this mystery seed planting?  I would love to hear from you and if you have ever grown a seed off of a napkin.  Be sure to follow along so you can see if I get any tomatoes from these plants.  I can’t wait to share this adventure with you.  Something tells me this is going to be the most amazing tomato I’ve ever grown.  Do you ever get that feeling in this type of situation?
