In this article, I present a straightforward and budget-friendly idea for spring container planting that I assembled quickly. All the materials featured in this post and video were sourced locally during the early spring. It’s best to keep a container like this near your home, as we are still a few weeks away from the last frost date. Check out the video and distinctive images below.
Spring Container Design Idea Video
This afternoon, my pup Oliver and I were assembling two containers on the front porch while it drizzled. Ollie already had muddy paws from assisting me in the dome. The spring flowers showcased in the video were sourced locally from Meijer and Menards during my outings over the past few weeks. Check out the video below for details on how simple it is to put this container together.

Highlights From The Container Design Idea
Spring can be a challenging time of that year for me with the geodesic bio dome exploding with color from the early summer temperatures thanks to the suns position. Outside can be drab and uncontrollably cold meaning not to many flowers can be planted yet. My two tall containers that I painted cream last summer have been fun to change with the seasons. In the Autumn I had peppers and lantana while winter pinecones and red berries were around the boxwoods.
Pansies and daffodils are readily available at most stores in my area, particularly at the garden centers, during this season. I prefer daffodils because I can plant the bulbs in my landscape after they finish blooming, allowing me to enjoy them again next year. The $3 I spent was definitely worth it! On the other hand, pansies can be tricky to keep thriving as summer approaches. In the meantime, I will enjoy having them close to the house while keeping an eye on the weather for any potential hard frost that might be in the forecast.

Sphagnum Moss is a product I have kept handy in my potting shed for years. It makes a nice filler or mulch that actually can enhance the soil. I places a nice heaping handful around the plants and shrub in this container today.

My supply is getting old and has started to break down a little because I couldn’t find any clumps that were long enough to drape out of the container. I might have to go get another bag and add a little more later. Wouldn’t some painted Easter eggs look cute in this design?!
