Today, I brought home an Alpina zerumber variegata (variegated shell ginger) plant to cultivate in my Geodesic Bio Dome greenhouse. I was thrilled to discover this beauty at one of my new favorite greenhouses. Although the name “GINGER” led me to believe it might be edible, it turns out it is not. No worries! I’m incredibly excited to grow this stunning plant in my greenhouse dome.

In this post, I’m sharing a photo and some video clips of my experience bringing this gorgeous variegated plant home. I’m looking forward to a tropical bloom in the future, so be sure to stay tuned by subscribing to updates on this website!

New Addition to My Greenhouse | The Alpina Zerumber Variegata

With a name as intricate as Alpina Zerumber Variegata (commonly known as shell ginger), I’m sure I’ll forget it at some point! However, its more familiar name, variegated shell ginger, is easier to remember. This stunning tropical plant can thrive indoors as a houseplant even in colder hardiness zones like mine. In the accompanying feature video, I showcase how the plant looked when I first brought it home to the geodesic bio dome. I also introduce a few of its new ‘friends’ in this space. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

The video feature is one of many on my Bren Haas YouTube Channel.
