Walking in the Dome
My Happy Place | Plants Soak up Sun in Dome

Here’s a delightful update for October as we gear up for the impending frost, although the forecast for the next two weeks shows no signs of it. Daytime temperatures have dipped to around 60°F, with nighttime lows falling into the 40s outside. Inside the dome, the average temperature remains around 62°F.

Spending time in the geodesic biodome is truly a pleasure, where it feels like autumn is in a perfect pause. In this post, complete with a vlog, you’ll find out why I struggle to complete tasks outside the dome—it’s just too much fun!

Dome Update: October 20 Video

Pause at the entrance and take a moment to appreciate this handcrafted structure. I can’t help but soak it all in as the sun shines during this late afternoon. However, I’m aware that it won’t always be so cozy as we transition into the later days of autumn when the sun moves further away from the Earth. Enjoy my vlog that captures this day in October, highlighting what thrives in this space. Scroll below to find images that showcase the daily highlights.

Dome Cactus and More Highlights

Clump,Echinopsis Hybrid in the Dome

There is so much growing on in the dome this year that I don’t know where to begin. Not only have we had wonderful weather that has let us continue to grow outside and take our time moving plants indoors but the dome was ready to go early this year. My husband and I had the inside winterizing layer of plastic up by the middle of September (YES!!!). Below are a few of my favorite captures from this afternoon update in the dome.

Shell GInger Plant Week 5
The Shell Ginger Plant is doing Great in the Dome Week 5

It’s hard to pick just a few of my favorites for todays post.  Everything is doing very well except for my ‘little blue eucalyptus plants. The container I potted them in has too wet of soil and wasn’t getting enough sunshine.  I moved them and hope they will pop back.  There isn’t a photo in this post of that plant but I did feature them in an early blog post / video.

Very Fragrant At Last Rose in October Dome

The ‘At Last Rose’ I feature on my website has been growing in a container since I first received it to trial.  I had 2 others outdoors that just didn’t perform as well.

In the photo above featuring the Little Ruby Fig tree I am sad to say in the last four years of growing this variety I have YET to get a fruit.  It is a nice size plant but not sure it is one I will continue to grow.
