Why Grow Summer Herbs
I really can’t imagine a season without herbs. There are many reasons I grow certain varieties of herbs in the summertime. Perhaps the most important reason is just for the joy they bring me. Anyone who has rubbed up against a nice row of lavender will be able to relate to the happiness these plants bring. In my garden outside there are many plants that come up each year (perennials) that I just can’t live without.
Adding summer herbs to my recipes is just one of the many pleasures of the season. A dash of fresh chive in potatoes or a pinch of dill in the potato salad is THE BEST! Many of the herbs that can’t be grown outdoors year-round are easy to preserve for later use. My favorites include lavender, mint and patchouli.
