Creative Food Growers
Finding information about growing food in home gardens isn’t a challenge this season with the subject’s popularity on the rise of the social networks as well as printed publications. While waiting in line at the local garden center this afternoon where I was picking up a last minute seed impulse buy, the latest copy of Martha Stewart Living featuring my favorite color theme on the front cover caught my eye.
Next stop will be to the greenhouse to find my own gorgeous striped Calliope eggplant that is featured in the layout. Frances highlights the importance of watering and structures to grow the vegetable plants property in this article.
I love the look of the rustic raised beds filled with dahlias as well as squash by gardener Frances. I never thought of adding a bee favorite plant like the dahlia to my raised beds. The article shares many facts about the benefits of growing flowers with vegetables.
When constructing raised beds for your garden be sure the beds are not too big. The beds should be easy to access without having to climb into the bed. This may compact the soil. I love the bamboo used in the garden featured in the image above and I’m sure to add this to my next lumber store purchase.
Did you notice the Nasturtium leaves under the display of cheese in the image above? Frances Palmer and I have so much in common and I’m seriously inspired to grow more vegetable varieties using different techniques after reading this article. I highly recommend this publication.
I’d love to hear about the magazines you enjoy to pick up at the local grocery store. Do you subscribe to them? Leave a comment below or reach out to me on my contact page featured on this site.
