Olivia Ready For A Nap

I can’t believe it is moving day. We just took the last of the living out of the 10’x12′ conventional greenhouse for the winter. New and exciting adventures ahead in the new year on moving day for the cactus. In this post, I share what it was like to move my cactus out of the greenhouse and into the new dome.

Moving Day for The Giant Cactus

Tears fill my eyes … trust me as the lasts plant loads into the golf cart.  A big part of the greenhouse was watching this giant cactus grow from a 4″ little guy to this giant 3-foot cactus who was my co-pilot on this load to the  geodesic dome. In the video below I share what it was like to move the cactus and other living plants out of the greenhouse.  Take a tour of what is growing on in early December as winter creeps into Ohio.  No fear gardening in this video:

Moving Day in The Dome

The Geodesic bio dome has been in use since 2015.  This is the first year I have confidence in it and I am moving the cactus from the greenhouse.  It is a sad but exciting day for me and my pup Olivia as you can tell.  Below you will find images of the Dome from today’s move-in.

Winter Light in The Dome

One of the most important achievements is letting as much light into the 20 foot geodesic bio dome as possible during the winter.  In this post I share a video answering questions about light during the winter months.

Heating The Dome Greenhouse

Over the years one of the most commonly asked question is ‘Do you heat the dome?’.  Besides loading the structure with as much mass that will help collect passive heat I do have a backup source.  In this VLOG I share a quick review of what is being used in this  20′ Geodesic Bio Dome.

Sad to turn off the heat in the 10’x12′ conventional greenhouse.  It has been growing strong since 2009 but very excited to continue my adventures in the 20′ Geodesic Bio-Dome. I hope you consider following me on my website and check out the Newsletter.
