Friday Flaunt Featuring Blanket Flower

Gaillardia ‘Fanfare’ Common name: Blanket Flower

The Blanket Flower always puts on a fabulous show the first year in my garden.  The second-year it is just a memory because I never have luck with this perennial returning to my garden.   The Gaillardia in the image above is in its’ second year so this is a quit the share.  Not only are the unique petals of this bloom my favorite but I am loving the stages that appear on one plant.  It has buds, seeds and blooms all on one compact plants at the same time.

Very busy first weekend in Autumn for me.  I have a Wedding to shoot so I hope to share with you some amazing bouquets from the bridal party.   Happy Friday Everyone!

  1. Love this flower…have many different varieties in my zone 5 garden and they continue to come back and spread. I have them in sunny, dry conditions which seems to be what they love….I love the stages as well…beautiful for many seasons then 🙂

  2. Bren, I have to tell you what I just learned about (this) gaillardia. I visited a nursery recently. I moaned about my similar plight with the plant. She told me that gaillardia hardly ever return, as they “bloom themselves to death.” I’m sure you noticed its constant blooming! 🙂 I took seeds last fall. They didn’t come back true to its parentage, but they’re “regular” gaillardia and they’re still beautiful. 🙂
