Today’s featured podcast may just be what I love most about being on the Fiskars Project Orange Thumb Editorial Board. This is the 14th anniversary and I had the honor of being on their editorial board for the second consecutive year where I helped select 30 grant recipients from the 50 finalists. This year more than 400 applications submitted, 30 recipients receive $3,500 in cash and tools to support their own community gardens. Earlier this week I got to connect with Rigal Behrens who is the Community Development Planner at Working In Neighborhoods or WIN in Cincinnati. This organization is one of the grant recipients and I’m thrilled to share with you this quick phone interview I was able to have with the delightful Rigal who shares how their community in South Cumminsville has some great news being shared rather than the negative that usually fills the news. The growing community shared in this presenation totally moved me and I hope it will you as well.

If you Google South Cumminsville at the top of the search you will find that this community is one of the oldest predominantly African-American neighborhoods in Ohio. Affiliates of the USA Today News : Cincinnati News shared a moving article about the community at : http://www.cincinnati.com. Community Development Planner for Working in Neighborhoods Rigel Behrens shared with me how thrilled the South Cumminsville Community was to have this article written about them when the news is often filled with negative.
