Just under a month ago we got the covers on my 4’x4′ raised beds. At that time the celery, radishes and the Italian salad seeds that had reseeded were growing strong. I was so busy in the landscape that I didn’t get the carrots in that I wanted. No worries …. I will stick a pot of those seeds in the greenhouse that gets warmer (as long as the sun is out) and holds the heat at night thanks to the heater. Hopefully those seeds will grow as they have in the past years in the greenhouse because we love our carrots.

Planting New Seeds and Watching the Kale Grow
In the 4’x 4′ where the kale is growing I added about 1/2 cup of heirloom lettuce mesclun mix that is basically a cut and grow and should do well in these growing conditions. I also added a pack ( about 1/4 cup ) of radish seeds. The radishes always do well and are quick to harvest in the cold weather. I did throw in a few Nasturtium seeds I had left from the summer garden. I should have paid closer attention to the other covered bed because the nasturtium seems to have wilted from the cold over the past weeks even being in a covered environment.
I’m looking forward to sharing this experience with you on my blog so I hope you will continue to follow along and ask questions. Tomorrow I will share the Chicken and Dumplings I made from some of the celery I harvested today.
