It’s crazy how quick Autumn arrived this year. I was really hoping we would have had a longer summer with warm temperatures into November. There’s no stopping the weather so we might as well embrace it by enjoying seasonable activities. Below is a list of things 4 things I plan on doing this weekend and I hope they inspire you to get out and take in some Autumn color.
“Bittersweet October. The mellow, messy, leaf-kicking, perfect pause between the opposing miseries of summer and winter.” -Carol Bishop Hipps, “October,” In a Southern Garden, 1995
Take A Drive Out To the Country
When I was a kid it seemed like we spent the most time in the car on family drives to Grandma’s house, sight seeing or just enjoying a drive into the country side for the day. I have some great memories of all the fun sights we took in together as a family. One thing my Dad always told me that I live by today is ‘Take it all in… you never know if you will ever be back here again’.
Visit an Apple Orchard
With the cooler night time temperatures the apples in my area are getting really tasty! Why not head out to your local apple orchard and enjoy the afternoon walking the orchard and picking apples.
Looking for a tasty treat to make with those apples? One of my favorites is this Apples in a Blanket Recipe I shared on my blog. Did you think a recipe wouldn’t be in my 4 Fun Autumn Weekend Activity Ideas ?!
Shop a Local Garden Center
Have you been to your local Mom and Pop Garden Center lately? You will be amazed at the selection of Mums and other autumn plants they have on display. I guarantee they have one of the largest selections you will find.
Visit the Farmers Market
Do you know how late in the season your Farmers Market is open this year? I’m driving to Central Ohio tomorrow for a fun canning event with my friend Janet Cassidy. I’m so excited to be able to visit the Delaware Farmers Market before we get down to business at 1 p.m. ET tomorrow for #canninglive. She tells me her market has lots of organic produce!
Check out the Fall Color Driving Tour
Many of these routes also offer opportunities to stop at nearby state parks, forests and nature preserves for up-close views of fall’s annual woodland fireworks. read more and view maps at : http://fallcolor.ohiodnr.gov/driving
