Rockin’ #gardenchat With The Garden Rockstar

Today I received my copy of  I Garden: Urban Style Grow The Garden that Fits Your Space & Schedule by Michael Nolan and Reggie Solomon.   The photo to the left is a MUST share considering I can’t help but imagine the creative ideas I’m going to get out of this book to help make this little space in my yard the growing area I’ve been dreaming of.   I literally ripped into the package just a few steps from the mailbox  and this cabin where the mail is delivered knowing it was what I had been anticipating after speaking with this books Author yesterday.  I held the book up to admire the cover and it hit me… TOMATOES!  I’ve been drawing up plans to make this roof top a live roof and working on a way to water in this location during the hot months that I never thought of planting one of my FAVORITE treasures from each summers harvest.   I can see a landscape with fresh veggies like tomatoes  featured in this space growing this summer.    As I flipped open the book I was captivated by all the bright images used to capture the true creativity of gardening.    Let me tell you  – I am loving this book before reading it!

Did I mention that Michael Nolan is our guest host on Monday for #gardenchat.  I’m excited to here all the wonderful gardening tips and ideas he has to share with us.  Please bring your questions for him as well because he is also a rockstar on Twitter and will be able to take questions live!

Want to know where Michael got his nick name Garden Rockstar?   Ever wonder what it is like to write a book?  I had the pleasure of speaking with Mr. Nolan last Friday about these topics and about his plan to grow 60% of what he eats by 2012.   I invite you to kick back and enjoy this podcast with Michael Nolan – The Garden Rockstar.

  1. Loving my book so far, Bren! Thankfully, Michael has informed me that there won’t be a pop quiz on the contents :) Can’t wait for the garden to come in so I can try out some of the recipes included in the book. Definitely looking forward to Monday night’s #gardenchat.

My question for Michael is: What veggies/plants has he found that DON’T work in containers?

  2. Oh, Brenda you just keep bringing all of us in the world of gardening such inspiration in the garden with your podcast interviews. I truly enjoy them and your latest interview share with Michael Nolan, author of I Garden Urban Style. He is truly a “Garden Rock Star” and is a gardener to whom I Eco package my Moo Poo Teas for. Thank you Brenda and Michael for your shares, I’m excited to be growing awareness about #freshfood with you and all those that join in on #gardenchat Annie

  3. Michael is THE BEST.

    My question for Michael:

Conquering a farm that’s never been a garden must be difficult – what are his plans for this season?

    Happy #gardenchat!!!!

  4. Great podcast you two! I am looking forward to the discussion Monday on #gardenchat. It sounds like Michael has another book in the back of his head. Maybe about homesteading and living off the land?

I think its great that Michael is setting his goal for next year to be 60% self produced food source. I imagine a lot of people look at that and can’t even fathom it, but I do think it is doable and realistic. It’s just planning and preparation.

    Looking forward to tomorrow night!

If I had a question for Michael it would be- Is he thinking about adding in a small greenhouse or cold frames to his garden plan for extended seasons or year around growing?

  5. In the last three years I have taken gardening seriously, by that I mean not planting things in the spring and having them die on me in summer with out much to show from it. I would love to get in on these chats, if just to watch them, so I can turn the corner from hobby to knowing what I am doing.

  6. It was a pleasure finding your site the other day. I came up here today hoping to learn something new. I was not disappointed. Your ideas for new solutions on this subject were insightful and a terrific help to me. Thank you for creating time to write out these things as well as for sharing your mind.

  7. Are you serious? Hell yes you are, this should be re-posted. with your permission, I will make that happen.
